Description:

City of Prince George (City) invites bids from qualified and experienced contractors for the supply of materials, labour, and equipment to provide trail rehabilitation and park improvement work at the existing trails and parks in 2023, in accordance with the terms and conditions outlined herein.

Trail Rehabilitation: The 2017 Park Strategy identifies trails as one of the highest strategic investments as they contribute to the quality of life by providing commuter alternatives to motorized transportation, recreational benefits, access to natural areas in otherwise urbanized environments and accessible infrastructure for user groups of all ages and mobility levels. Several trail systems have sections, which require repairs in order to meet the demands for use by residents.

Nature Park Improvements: The 2017 Park strategy identified Nature Parks and particularly waterfront parks as high priority areas for strategic investment. These parks are in high demand for residents as they provide formalized access to natural areas and access to waterfront locations. The infrastructure investment is often at a relatively low cost but provides a high benefit as it supports age friendly, accessible, and inclusive use, which foster civic pride, and supports healthy/active lifestyles.

Ball Diamond and Sport Field Renewal: This multi-year project would see reinvestment in ball diamonds and sports fields based on the Ball Diamond and Sport Field Strategy. Most of these outdoor recreation facilities were developed in the 1970's and 1980's by local sports groups and are in need of refurbishment based on a recent facility assessment. These amenities are proposed to include new fencing and field improvements at sports fields located within Carrie Jane Gray, Masich Stadium and Freeman Park, with the purpose of enhancing future tournaments and providing economic benefits to the community.

Accessibility Improvements: In 2017, a comprehensive accessibility audit was completed by BC Access North on close to 50 well-used park and trail areas. The accessibility improvements would be based on this audit and focus primarily on improving access routes, parking areas, signage/wayfinding, washrooms and other amenities with universal design that is age-friendly. 2023 will see improvements to parks and trails that are in high demand such as Carrie Jane Memorial Park, Ron Brent Park, and Freeman Park.
